Silver Line

Client: Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)

Project location: Boston, Massachusetts

Project cost: $756 million

As the prime consultant of a joint venture, DMJM Harris is responsible for assisting MBTA with program management, engineering and architectural design, public participation, environmental compliance and the Federal Transit Administration New Starts process. The Silver Line is a new bus rapid transit (BRT) line that will provide service from Dudley Square and Back Bay to the emerging South Boston Waterfront and Logan Airport.

The Silver Line, when fully operational in 2013, will be Boston’s fifth subway line. MBTA service today includes four subway lines, thirteen commuter rail lines, five boat routes, and 170 bus routes servicing approximately 3,244 square miles. Service is provided to 175 cities and towns which comprise the MBTA’s district in eastern Massachusetts with over 1.1 million riders each day, the nation’s fourth largest transit system.
