Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital

Owner/Client: Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital
Project location: Salinas, California
Construction cost: $4.5 million
DMJM Harris was selected to provide program and design management for the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s installation of turnkey cogeneration and backup generation systems. The project needed immediate attention because it had been in design/approval mode with OSHPOD and needed to get installed in order to realize incentives and energy savings.
The project consisted of the installation of four 250 kW natural gas fired reciprocating engine generators. A highly energy efficient design incorporated the use of the engine generator waste heat to supplement the Hospital’s hot water heating needs for domestic hot water and their laundry. This significantly offset natural gas expenditures for the Hospital. In addition, the Hospital needed additional back-up generation to meet its future goals. As a result, we added two 2,000 kW Emergency backup diesel generators to the project. The project also included remote system monitoring.
