City College of New York

Client: New York Power Authority (NYPA)
Owner: City College of New York (CCNY)
Project location: New York, New York
Construction cost: $18 million
The rapid growth of the City College of New York (CCNY) campus combined with its unique urban setting resulted in a central plant far behind its required capacity. Facing budget cuts, the administration was hard-pressed to find the capital to upgrade the central plant to the required level.
Through a unique energy performance contract between the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and DMJM Harris, CCNY was able to secure funding for their project while expediting the implementation of upgrades. DMJM Harris served as the implementation contractor, working with DASNY, CCNY and the City University of New York, to develop the design, and act as the general contractor for the project’s execution. Construction was completed on-time and on-budget for one of the largest central plants ever built in New York City.
