NYC Public Schools Clean Air for Schools Program

Client/Owner: New York Power Authority (NYPA)
Project location: New York, New York
Construction cost: $60 million
Through the creation of the Clean Air for Schools Program, the New York Power Authority was able to expedite the implementations of these important projects while providing funding for them. DMJM Harris provided design and construction services at over 75 of these schools, facilitating their conversion from coal to clean-burning natural gas.
As the Implementation Contractor for the New York Power Authority’s Clean Air for Schools Program, DMJM Harris provided major capital program facilities renovation projects on a turnkey design/build basis for the New York City Board of Education, working with the New York City School Construction Authority. Because these were public projects, DMJM Harris developed the design package to 100 percent bid documents and the projects were bid to a select list of bidders.
We also provided full-service Construction Management through project close-out. The projects included the conversion of coal boiler plants to dual fuel, and the installation of new natural gas service and fuel oil tanks. Additionally, these projects have included architectural and structural modifications.
