“Conservation and sustainability is not only a sound business decision, it’s the right thing to do,” says Adam Procell, who is a proponent of sustainability and conservation in his every day life, as well as in business. Adam recently completed a project to install insulation into the walls of his 1930s-vintage home, dramatically reducing natural gas usage for heating, and uses mass transit and teleconferencing to reduce his own carbon footprint.

For DMJM Harris, Adam is working to further develop sustainability and conservation measures within the firm’s day-to-day practices, including incorporating sustainable principles in our office operations as well as client projects.

    Key Projects
    • Cambridge Energy Alliance, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Adam is program executive for this initiative which seeks to reduce citywide demand for electricity, heating and water use by 15%. Expected to be a model for cities across the United States, the program provides loans to implement recommendations.
    • California State University, San Bernardino, California. Adam worked with the Chancellor’s office during the early stages of the comprehensive energy services program and was responsible for DMJM Harris’s project proposal. The firm has gone on to tackle projects on eight CSU campuses.
    • City of New York PlaNYC Greenhouse Gas Reduction Initiative, New York, New York. As project executive, Adam directed development of a 10-year plan to implement a series of initiatives to achieve the 30 percent greenhouse gas reduction target set through Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030.

    Professional accomplishments

Adam’s work with federal, state and local governments have placed him at the vanguard of the sustainable field. As vice chairman of the National Association of Energy Services Companies, he worked with federal legislators from the United States Senate and Congress and the Department of Energy on critical components within the Energy Policy Act of 2005. As a member of the Alliance to Save Energy’s Government Energy Leadership Action Team, he worked on a task force chartered to advocate for aggressive energy management in federal agencies, as well as federal legislation to increase energy conservation and renewable energy at federal facilities. He is active in such groups as the groups working on program design and sustainability legislation on the state level, including the New Jersey Clean Energy Council, the New York State Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard Working Group and the California Green Action Team.
